Mission Gagillapur is the Hormann Group’s CSR and philanthropy initiative. It aims to bring together citizens of Gagillapur, local Government and corporations in the area to create a solid foundation and joint vision for locally driven development. Unlike traditional philanthropy, it is a systematic and structured approach interested in the long-term development of the area.
Creation and nurturing of a registered, representative and functioning civil society organisation for the development of Gagillapur has been at the core of our strategy. One of the basic requirement for eco-friendly development of the neighbourhood was to provide purified drinking water and water storage facility. Currently, more than 300 households are now receiving delivery of purified drinking water at their doorstep through a community managed water purification plant.
Clean energy is an important part of any sustainable community. When the request to support the administration through LED electrification of all street lights came to us, Hoermann was more than happy to support this initiative. It helps reduce cost and is great for the environment. More than 700 lights were installed in a Private Public Partnership initiative.
In this endeavour, the Hoermann Group started working with the German Government through GIZ, the German Development Agency to conceptualise and implement a project under their Private Public Partnership programme- DeveloPPP. The project, titled “Improvements to Site Conditions in India”, aims to support the new municipality of Dundigal to prepare sound plans for Land Use, and Municipal Solid Waste Management. Signed between the Hoermann Group and GIZ in August 2018, DeveloPPP is a three-year project to build a scientific land use plan and municipal solid waste management plan at a broad level for Dundigal municipality, but also at a detailed level in Gagillapur. Structurally, the DeveloPPP Project in Gagillapur would be a first of its kind, bringing together an international development agency, the private sector, the community and local administration for the development of a rapidly growing peri urban location in a developing economy.
As we complete over three years of work on Mission Gagillapur, we remain convinced that the sustainable way forward is to be driven by the needs of the community, provide them with first class technical support and co-create solutions with them. Having established a presence in the community and having gained valuable experience in conceptualising, implementing and sustaining programmes, Mission Gagillapur is now poised to become a significant force of development in the village- a platform to bring together stakeholders for the comprehensive transformation of Gagillapur.
